Last week, while I was reshelving books, one of our parishioners came in, checked the card catalog and asked where a particular subject number was. All the while she told me of her New Year’s resolution – one that varies little from year to year: she gives her spiritual life a ‘jump start’. She said it’s a perfect time, since its winter and cold out, to stay home, read, study, pray, and just take care of her spirit.

I was impressed. I usually make the resolution that has to do with my physical self. But who are we, but  a spiritual being ? So, as she was leaving the library, I went to our ‘new arrival’ shelf and pulled Chuck Swindoll’s Start Where You Are. That’s what I’m doing – starting where I am.

Let this year be a year you resolve to ‘jump start’ your spiritual being.
